Happy Belated Solstice!

That which makes it all happen...

I tend to lose track of time for a lot of things.  Dates and details are not my priorities, sometimes to a fault.  For this reason, I saw the Summer Solstice slip on by without much personal fanfare.  That’s OK though, as most every day is cause to celebrate nature in my book, and we have been celebrating.  We happened across a fairly large group at the South Yuba doing a Solstice ceremony, which alerted us to the passing of this longest day of the year.

Spotting the Tiger Lilies...

A little closer...

Closer still...

In the foothills where we are currently hovering, the wildflowers are breaking out in extreme profusion.  Today I came upon some wild tiger lilies, an utterly amazing sight to behold.  In this particular set dwelled a small inhabitant that you can see if you click on the picture and look closely.  That’s one beautifully fancy crib they’ve got going on there.

Another significant event is that the wild cherries are almost ripe.  This area has got an abundance of sweet, wild black cherry trees that produce real delicious, satisfying fruits.  Many of them can be found in abandoned fields and especially in wild areas where there is an abundance of water.  Because of all the rain and moisture this year, the crop is looking especially abundant and plentiful.  Soon after that, the wild berries will start popping till well into August so stay tuned for that.

The coming of the wild black cherries...

The weather is continuing to warm, with some 90+ degree temps coming on this weekend.  That’s the time to begin to migrate up in elevation for some relief and re-creation, and of course to see the beautiful sights.  The higher elevations rarely go above the mid 80’s, so it’s always pleasant and mild.  I love the high country personally and always feel consistently great when spending a good deal of time exploring the multitude of mountaintops, rivers and lakes to be had there.

Yum!

There is something uniquely energizing about being in the higher elevations.  A certain invigorating crispness is in the air; a subtle charge, and a rejuvenating freshness that comes with the melting snow cover, can be had for the nature seeker.

So in general, this is a subtle reminder that the longest day in this hemisphere has just passed.  Of course the significance is being aware of the Sun and its Life giving path across the heavens.  Hope it finds you well, in good health, and that you have a good deal of free time to go out and enjoy the things that make this Life truly worth living.

Renting An RV On Your Next Adventure

Renting an RV can be a wise decision for a number of situations.  Renting can be a great introduction to the RV lifestyle for the uninitiated. Keep in mind, that on a short trip of a week, it is difficult to get comfortable with RV operation, and you will probably encounter a certain amount of stress.  For those who are anticipating buying an RV, or trading to a different model and type of RV, an RV for rent is a good way to try out different types, as most are available for rent.  This way, you can try different models to evaluate a future purchase, honing in on the type of rig that works best for you and your needs.

Begin your search in your local Yellow Pages, or go online to www.rvra.org which is the address of the Recreational Vehicle Rental Association.  If you are traveling during the busier times of year, notably the major holidays and the summer months, it is wise to reserve your RV, months in advance.  It will be difficult to get one that you desire on a spur of the moment decision during these peak times.  In the off seasons, most notably during the winter, this won’t be as much a concern.

class c rental

Class C's are a very popular rental.

The most common recreational vehicle rentals are the Class A and Class C motorhomes, which account for up to 90 percent of all RV’s rented.  Rates will vary seasonally depending on the time of year you are renting.  Off season winter rates are of course cheaper than during peak travel times.  Rates also vary according to the type of RV.  Tent trailers come in at the lowest, while rates for large Class A motor home rentals top these figures.  Travel trailer rentals, fifth wheel rentals, and toy haulers can be found at some companies.  These can be found with a little more effort and are becoming more common in the marketplace.  The non-motorized rv’s are cheaper to rent than the motorized of course.  This can be good for those who own an adequate tow vehicle.

Class A rentals for those who can afford it.

Other expenditures to keep in mind while estimating the total cost of a trip will be the use of the generator which comes equipped on most units.  There will be a meter that records your usage during your rental period.  Your generator use will vary; if you are staying at RV parks during the entire trip you probably won’t use it at all.  If you plan on staying out in the primitive camps with no hookups available, and/or in dense forests, you may use it a great deal.  The generator will need to used when running the microwave, air conditioning, TV and so on in places without hookups.  Check the rate the rental company charges for generator use so that you can be aware of how much you will be charged.

motorhome interiors

Motorhome rentals come in all degrees of luxury.

Many rental companies offer a furnishings package that can be convenient to take out some of the tedious planning of your trip.  For a flat fee of around $85, they will stock the RV with bedding, towels, cookware, dishes and utensils.  Other packages available will include power cords, toilet paper and chemicals, and other useful items you will most likely need.  Sometimes purchasing these various add-ons will take some of the planning required out of your trip making things easier.  You can then focus mostly on personal gear like clothes, books and travel guides, electronic equipment and so forth.

tent trailer rental

Tent trailers can be rented for an economical choice.

In addition to the above extra expenses, another one to consider is that most rental centers will request a cleaning deposit.  If you bring back the unit with the holding tanks full, or the interior is dirty, or there is damage done to the rig, they will most likely not return it.  There are a number of companies that will take care of the holding tank cleanup for you though.  If this is important to you, look for this service as for many, this is probably one of the most unpleasant “jobs” in RV life.

travel trailer rental

Travel trailers can be rented with a little searching.

Make sure that the rental dealer demonstrates all aspects of operation of the rig you are renting.  Make sure you are clear as to how things work, and make sure that you are provided with a full set of instructional manuals that make sense to you, before setting off.  As a final step make sure you do a thorough walk around of the unit, taking note of damage and defects, the same as when renting a car.  During your trip is not the time to try and figure out how to operate your equipment as that time will take away from your enjoyment of your travels.

Lastly, keep in mind that most RV’s that you can rent, can be purchased from the rental companies or a dealer if renting from them.  If you end up really liking the rig you rent, perhaps negotiate a purchase price with the rental company.  Great deals can be had on RV’s two or three years old as most get rid of them after this period of time.  Also many will subtract the rental price off of the purchase price, making it an even more attractive option.  Renting an RV could turn into a path towards becoming an RV owner.

More Of The Same?!?

It is with some regret, that we have nothing BIG to report to you at this time.  Lately it’s been a large effort towards bearing down on the goal of creating internet income streams.  At some point, as things pan out, we will begin to write about the process so that you too can benefit from the knowledge, and yes, the struggles and challenges involved in creating such streams.  Overall we have had many small successes that are motivating us to continue.

overview of the ocean

Google is like the Ocean...

The funny thing is, was that I entered into this thinking I knew a great deal about the subject.  As it turns out, I hadn’t even scraped the surface about what turns out to be a labyrinth of conflicting, confusing, misinformation.  There are as many ways to make money inline as there are people, and with Google changing the rules all the time, it’s a subject that you can never fully “know”, even if you tried.  There are also a huge amount of scams leading to  a huge waste of time and money, so if you go this route, BEWARE!

the waters that feed the ocean...

the waters that feed the ocean...

Like a good nomad, I liken it to sailing, with Google and the internet at large, representing the ocean.  The best you can do is start sailing hopefully with some knowledge and know-how to get your boat started and hopefully not crash and drown.  Then as your skill increases, learn to read the winds and adjust your course accordingly.  It’s a wild ride and definitely not for everyone.  If you want some form of stability, work a job!  But for us, there is no substitute and no turning back, so full sail and full speed ahead.

wildflowers in bloom

the warmth brings on the wildflower blooms...

The weather has finally started to turn in these parts, the foothills below the Sierra Nevada Range, towards warmer weather.  It was challenging to come from the desert into rain and snow.  Someone on the radio described it as “bi-polar weather”, with wild mood swings throwing us around at the mercy of Mother Nature.  The nicer weather definitely helps one to stay balanced and to endure.

a favorite running trail

running the boardwalks down to the sacred waters...

The warmer weather has had us going to the South Yuba River almost every day possible, to counter balance the saturation and compulsion of internet over-working.  There is something about running in the hills and forests, and then dunking repeatedly in the wild water that is rejuvenating beyond compare.  I feel sorry for people working regular jobs that can’t experience this.  Grounding into the Earth and the Elements is an indescribably delicious experience.

waters edge

down to waters edge to give thanks...

Overall, we plan to begin migrating up in elevation towards the Sierras, so should have some material to transmit once that begins.  It’s not that we haven’t been doing anything exciting, for there have definitely been some great occurrences and experiences.  The Internet Income thing has been all consuming though, leaving little time and energy to do further writing and work on NuNativs.  I feel bad letting it lay dormant for so long, but when we resume operations, it’ll be on a much better foot than where we left off.

a dip in here after running will cure all your ills...

So, bear with me my friends and thanks for those of you out there who have tuned in, and have been checking in on things. We really appreciate the attention and support thus far, and we hope to have things rolling along in a much bigger, smoother way in the very near future.   Hope all your travels this coming summer are rejuvenating and positive for you!
